Same Building – Different Views

Picture this: you’re on your dream vacation and you’ve just entered your room on the 50th floor at a 5 star luxury hotel. 

On the right side of the room, the view shows an industrial view– construction dumpsters, piles of dirt, cranes and hundreds of  orange cones. 

On the left side of the room, a gorgeous pink-orange sunrise breaking through the horizon, beach chairs and cabanas line the white sands, and a calm ocean with subtle waves (or maybe your view is snow capped mountains in Colorado…you get the point!).

You have some options….

You can spend your whole vacation upset and complaining how you’ve saved up for months and they put you in a room with a horrible construction view. Or you can close the curtains and spend all your time looking out the window appreciating the beautiful sunset. 

Point being, we choose what we focus on. Not just on vacation, but every single moment, every single day.

At any given time, we can find a plethora of reasons to be upset, frustrated, disappointed, fearful, or angry.  All we need to do is look for them.

Likewise, I’m willing to bet there’s an abundance of opportunity, love, joy, blessings, and things to be grateful for in your life.

Which one do you have your eyes fixed on?

Make a list:

  • Take out a piece of paper and draw a line down the center.
  • On the top left, label it things to focus on.
  • On the top right, label it close the curtain.
  • In the right column: write all the things that produce a negative emotion in your life.  Things like – disappointments, hurt, past failures, fears, worst case scenarios.
  • In the left column: all the things that bring you joy – loved ones, exercise and fitness, learning, growing, celebrating accomplishments, blessings, possibilities, opportunities, and who you wish to become.

When you find yourself wandering over to the right side of the room, see it, recognize it, send it love and turn your head and see your life as the masterpiece it truly is!
