What to do when you’re not sure what to do.
There are few things worse than feeling stuck, down, confused, low-energy, overwhelmed…trapped. Especially when we realize it, try to change it, and come up short.
One of the most effective ways for unstucking your Self is to pull out a piece of loose leaf paper and draw a line down the middle. On the left side, write down “In my Control” and on the right side write down “Let it Go”.
Next, flip the paper over and do the same thing—except only this time your labels will be “Brings Me Energy” and “Takes My Energy”.
Now Let The Magic Happen.
Spend 10 minutes (no more, no less) and list anything and everything that comes to mind under each of the 4 categories.
𝐈𝐧 𝐌𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥: these are things such as the quality/quantity of food you eat, exercising, how we treat people, what we listen to/read, taking care of priorities, working hard etc…
𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐈𝐭 𝐆𝐨: these are things such as how people treat us, excessive worry about what others think, the weather, hypothetical situations that we’ve completely made up in our head….things that we cannot change or that don’t serve us to focus on.
𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐌𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲: these are activities that elicit the particular emotions you want to feel. Listening to a comedian, a motivational YouTube video, interactions you have/people that you vibe with, hobbies and passions, massages, going for a walk, etc.
𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐌𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲: these are things that make you feel certain ways or that drain you…such as dwelling on situations, jealous or negative people, watching the news, eating certain foods, trying to be someone you’re not, etc…
After the 10 minute brainstorm is done, read through your list one more time. Quickly choose 2-3 from each category that you’re going to make sure you do TODAY, and 2-3 things you are going to not do or at least avoid as much as possible.
Keep the paper handy and go about your day. Stop every hour or two and reflect. Add things to the list as you see fit.
After 1 day you will have 80% of the info you need to stop feeling stuck. Move towards the things that are in your control and that bring you energy, and let go of the things you cannot control and try to find solutions for eliminating the things that take your energy out of your life as much as possible.
Obviously things will come up and life will happen. But this trick will get you UNSTUCK every time!
